On January 22, 2022, Darrell N. Jackson, a 20-year-old male from Youngstown, OH, was tragically shot to death in a drive-by shooting. Jackson was found in his car, which had multiple bullet holes, parked on the sidewalk at Market Street and East Philadelphia Avenue. The Mahoning County Coroner's Office confirmed that Jackson died from gunshot wounds, and the case was labeled as a homicide.
The investigation led to the arrest of Stevie A. Ballard, a 23-year-old male from Campbell, OH.
Ballard was indicted on charges of aggravated murder and other related charges. During the trial, it was revealed that Ballard had threatened to kill Jackson a couple of months before the incident. Jackson's father testified that he overheard Ballard making the threat during a phone call. Despite the circumstantial evidence presented, including Ballard's presence in a gold Honda from which the shots were fired, the jury found Ballard not guilty on all counts on August 25, 2023.
