Anthony Ant Darnell Render, a 47-year-old African American man from Dayton, Ohio, tragically passed away on March 26, 2022. Render was found shot and unresponsive in a crashed vehicle on North Broadway Street near Harvard Boulevard in Dayton. He succumbed to his injuries two days later. The incident occurred after police received multiple reports of gunfire in the area.
Chandler Lamar Brown Jr., a 19-year-old from Dayton, was later charged in connection with Render's death.
Brown pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other related charges. He was sentenced to between 11 and 12½ years in prison. Brown's defense claimed he acted to protect his mother during an altercation, but the prosecution argued that Brown had planned the attack and took deliberate steps to carry it out.
Brown's co-defendant, 18-year-old TyeJuan A. Johnson, was acquitted of murder and other charges related to Render's death. Johnson had been accused of providing the firearm used by Brown. The court found that the prosecution failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt all the essential elements of the charges against Johnson.
