On January 18, 2012, Derrick Sturgill was killed during a home invasion in Dayton, Ohio. The incident occurred at a residence on the 500 block of Deeds Avenue. Police responded to the scene and discovered that Sturgill had been the intended target of the intruders. According to investigators, three masked men entered the home around 10 p.m., assaulted Sturgill, and then shot him multiple times.
