Rawsheem Aponte, a 24-year-old man from Youngstown, Ohio, was tragically killed on April 26, 2022. The incident occurred on the South Side of Youngstown, where Aponte was shot while driving a car. The shooting was part of a chase involving multiple vehicles, and it ended when Aponte's car reached a dead end on Mohawk Avenue. Vashuad May, a 22-year-old man, was identified as the shooter. May was found guilty of aggravated murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

The main eyewitness in the case was Rekia Wright, Aponte's fiancée, who was also wounded in the shooting along with their 3-year-old child. Wright consistently identified May as the shooter, despite him wearing a mask. The couple had been feuding with members of May's family, which was believed to be a motive for the shooting. May evaded arrest for several months but was eventually captured by U.S. Marshals in Minnesota and brought back to Youngstown.

The case went to trial, and the jury found May guilty based on eyewitness testimony and video evidence. The video footage showed May firing shots into Aponte's car, and it matched the way he held the rifle in a rap video he made a few days before the shooting. The trial concluded with May being sentenced to life without parole, and the judge expressed strong condemnation of May's actions.

The tragic death of Rawsheem Aponte left a lasting impact on his family and the community, with his fiancée and child continuing to deal with the trauma of the incident. The case highlighted the devastating consequences of gun violence and the importance of justice for the victims and their families.
