Raquan Thomas, a 21-year-old male from Columbus, OH, was fatally shot on May 4, 2022. He was lured to a parking lot on McNaughten Road under the pretense of selling marijuana. When he arrived, he was approached by four men who attempted to rob him. During the ensuing altercation, shots were fired, and Thomas succumbed to his injuries at Mount Carmel East hospital.
The investigation led to the arrest and charging of four men: 23-year-old Jeremiah Jackson, 20-year-old Tony Cunningham, and
the 19-year-old brothers Willie and Zacharias Mullen. All four suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery and shooting death of Thomas during separate interviews with authorities. They were charged with murder and later sentenced to prison terms ranging from 20 to 27 years.
Thomas' death marked the 41st homicide in Columbus in 2022, highlighting the city's ongoing struggle with violent crime. The case drew significant attention from local law enforcement and the community, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to address and prevent such tragic incidents.
