On May 9, 2018, Muhammed Dukureh Tunkara, a 41-year-old Black male, was tragically killed in Columbus, Ohio. He was discovered lying on the sidewalk in front of 2167 Yorkhull Lane, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Columbus Police officers were called to the scene at approximately 10:48 p.m. after receiving a report of gunshots. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Grant Medical Center, Mr.
Tunkara was pronounced deceased at 11:31 p.m.
The incident occurred at the York Terrace North apartments off Maple Canyon Drive. Questions arose regarding the security measures at the apartment complex, as there had been reports of violent crimes in the surrounding area. The Murray Law Firm, representing victims of security negligence, suggested that the apartment complex owner or management might have failed to provide adequate security to protect residents. This led to discussions about whether the tragedy could have been prevented with better security measures, such as gated-entry, bright lighting, surveillance cameras, and security patrols.
