Carlton Stonewall Jackson, a 33-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 29, 2019, in Columbus, Ohio. Jackson was shot inside a residence on the 2900 block of East Moreland Drive around 1:40 p.m. He was immediately transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The Columbus Division of Police launched an investigation into the incident and identified two suspects who fled the scene in a
dark-colored SUV. Jackson was not the homeowner, and the police urged anyone with information to come forward. This case marked the 71st homicide in Columbus for the year 2019.
On October 31, 2019, Forrest Hayden Smith, a 35-year-old man from the South Side, was arrested and charged with Jackson's murder. According to court records, Smith was identified by an eyewitness as being at the scene, producing a gun, and attempting to rob Jackson. Smith denied being present at the scene, but the investigation confirmed his involvement. He was arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court and held in the Franklin County jail.
