On December 24, 1908, Patrolman Harry E. Campbell, aged 34, of the Columbus Division of Police in Ohio, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call. The incident occurred at a residence on West Rich Street, near the old city prison. As Patrolman Campbell entered the yard, a 19-year-old son of the household opened fire with a shotgun, fatally wounding him.
