Melvin Thomas, a 27-year-old African American male, was a well-known youth basketball coach in Toledo, OH. On September 8, 2022, he was shot multiple times at the intersection of Elm and Hudson in North Toledo. Thomas was found on the front steps of a building, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his death was ruled a homicide. Two other individuals were injured in the shooting but survived.
