Just after midnight on August 9, 2025, Toledo police were called to the 600 block of East Central Avenue, where they found 31-year-old Leonel Avila Rodriguez, a man, outside a home with gunshot wounds. Officers had been dispatched around 12:49 a.m.; Rodriguez died at the scene. A second person was also shot but suffered only a minor injury.
