Keichell Cardell, an 18-year-old female from Toledo, Ohio, tragically passed away on December 18, 2022. She was a graduate of Whitmer High School and was known for her kindness and love for basketball. Keichell was the oldest daughter, granddaughter, and sibling, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
On the night of her death, Keichell was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest at a residence on Moss Creek Street in Raintree Village Mobile Home Park.
She was transported to St. Vincent Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m., and Washington Township Police and Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
Antonio Hernandez Jr., who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, was arrested and charged with murder and felonious assault in connection with Keichell's death. Hernandez was later found guilty of one count of murder and one count of felonious assault, but was found not guilty of an additional count of murder. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
The case has been a significant one in the Washington Township area, with the community and law enforcement working to bring justice for Keichell. The trial and subsequent conviction of Hernandez have been closely followed by the local media and residents, who are seeking closure and justice for the young victim.
