Louis McClymonds Davies Jr., a 29-year-old Caucasian male, was a Federal Prohibition Agent with the United States Department of the Treasury - Internal Revenue Service - Bureau of Prohibition. On January 14, 1930, Agent Davies was shot and killed while raiding an illicit distillery on a farm in Pamlico County, North Carolina. During the raid, Davies and another agent, A. D. Mosley, had arrested one man, Solomon Guion, at the still.
However, as they were searching the site, Guion managed to gain control of Agent Davies' gun and fatally shot him. Guion then fled the scene and was never apprehended.
Despite a massive manhunt and the arrests of additional suspects, Guion remained at large. The incident marked a tragic end to Agent Davies' career, which had begun on December 1, 1928. He was survived by his wife, Miriam, and their four children: Doris, George, Grace, and Louis.
