On July 30, 2014, Gary Simpson, a 61-year-old male, was fatally shot in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The incident also claimed the life of 10-year-old Trekwan Covington. The community mourned the loss of both individuals, with 37 candles lit in memory of Gary Simpson.
