Nikko Eugene Brown, a 33-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 19, 2022, in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The incident occurred at approximately 2:02 a.m. when police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment on Kenmont Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered Nikko Brown suffering from gunshot wounds inside the residence.
Despite the efforts of Cape Fear Valley EMS and first responders, Brown was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center shortly after.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was a result of a confrontation between Nikko Brown and his younger brother, Tony Orlando Levi Dunn, a 21-year-old African American male. According to court records, Dunn was charged with first-degree murder in connection with his brother's death. The arrest warrant indicated that Brown had been shot in the left chest and hip. Dunn, who lived with Brown and his wife, claimed that he was unsure how many times he had shot his brother. He stated that Brown was armed and swinging a gun in front of his legs just before the shooting. When Brown lifted the weapon, Dunn fired at him.
Following the shooting, Dunn expressed remorse, stating that he did not intend for the situation to escalate to such a tragic outcome. He reportedly told investigators, "I didn't want this to happen. I just wanted him to leave." The case remains under investigation, and authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Hope Mills Police Department or Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crimestoppers.
