On December 21, 2023, at approximately 8:40 p.m., deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 5400 block of Miranda Drive near Hope Mills, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Duane S. Quarles Jr., a resident of Plainfield, New Jersey, unresponsive outside the residence with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Duane Quarles Jr.
was born on March 23, 1990, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to parents Duane S. Quarles Sr. and Marlene Jackson. He was the owner of Tweaklife, LLC, based in Plainfield, and a former member of the Greater Refuge Church of Christ. He is survived by his triplet sons, a daughter, his parents, two sisters, his maternal grandmother, and maternal great-grandmother.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation into Quarles Jr.'s death. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
