Trekwan Covington, a 10-year-old African American boy, tragically lost his life on July 30, 2014, in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The incident occurred during a domestic dispute that escalated into a deadly shootout. Andrew J. Michaelis, the estranged husband of Valerie Michaelis, fired more than 60 rounds from an AR-15 rifle into a mobile home where Trekwan and other family members were present.
