On the evening of August 5, 2023, in Wade, North Carolina, deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a possible overdose at a residence on Sambo Jackson Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 48-year-old Brian Carter Vann and his wife, Jennifer Vann, both deceased from gunshot wounds. The couple was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident was immediately classified as a double homicide.
