Willie Ernest Grimes, a 20-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on May 22, 1969, during the 1969 Greensboro uprising. Grimes, a sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University , was caught in the crossfire between student protesters, police, and the National Guard.
