Paul Herman Futrell, a 36-year-old male, was a deputy sheriff with the Hertford County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina. On September 18, 1992, he responded to a domestic disturbance call in Winton, NC. The incident involved a father who was refusing to return his daughter's child. As Deputy Futrell attempted to resolve the situation, the father shot him in the head, resulting in his immediate death.
