In early 1993, Jeffrey John Zoltowski, a 23-year-old student from Michigan, embarked on a four-month hiking adventure in Hawaii. Described by loved ones as a compassionate and free-spirited individual, he was an experienced hiker who maintained close contact with his family, calling them frequently to share his experiences.
