In the early hours of a spring morning, a then 27-year-old Davis Cortez vanished from his overnight shift at the Amfac/JMB Lihue Plantation sugar cane processing plant in Lihue, Hawaii. He was last seen by a coworker between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. Cortez, who was responsible for oiling and maintaining the plantation's equipment, was a dependable employee, and his sudden disappearance was out of character.
