Sergeant Mickey Gray Hutchens, aged 50, was a dedicated officer with the Winston-Salem Police Department in North Carolina. He tragically lost his life on October 12, 2009, after being critically wounded five days earlier while responding to a call for backup. Hutchens was shot by a suspect who had outstanding warrants and was involved in a domestic disturbance. The incident occurred behind a local restaurant on Peters Creek Parkway.
