Javier Manuel Martinez, a 21-year-old male, tragically lost his life on November 1, 2009, in Mount Airy, North Carolina. The suspect in this case, Marcos Gonzalez, 29, was arrested early the following morning at
a Super 8 motel in Martinsville, Virginia, about 50 miles northeast of Mount Airy. Gonzalez was known to the victims and was believed to have carried out the shooting in retaliation over a female. He was taken into custody without incident and later waived extradition to face charges in Surry County.
The investigation revealed that Gonzalez used a high-power assault rifle to fire 16 shots at the victims.
