Aaishia Hester, a 22-month-old girl, was caught in the final, violent minutes of an adult relationship unraveling in Durham, North Carolina. On Saturday, May 7, 2011, officers were dispatched to Hampton Forest Apartments on Chalk Level Road after reports of gunfire near Building N. When they arrived, they found Tyrone Xavier Hester lying behind the building, dead at the scene, and the child critically wounded nearby.
