Jeremiah Dewayne Hilton, a 21-year-old from Hubert, NC, tragically lost his life on September 30, 2014. The incident occurred during a home invasion at his residence on Riggs Road in Hubert. According to reports, the Onslow County Sheriff's Office identified 19-year-old Willie Ware, also from Hubert, as the intruder. Both Hilton and Ware were found dead with gunshot wounds inside the residence when deputies arrived at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including who shot Hilton and who shot Ware.
Hilton's death has left a significant impact on his family and friends. His mother, Kristina Hilton, expressed her grief and called for peace and love in the community. Hilton's friend, Brandon Fenwick, shared memories of their childhood together and highlighted Hilton's protective nature, emphasizing that he was defending his family during the home invasion.
The investigation into Hilton's death revealed that he was scheduled to appear in court on November 6, 2014, for a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Additionally, several arrests were made in connection to the home invasion. Steven Leroy Rolle IV, 24, turned himself in and was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. Rolle allegedly conspired with Ware and another man, 19-year-old Anthony Maurice Sloane Jr., to commit an armed robbery. Sloane was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit an armed robbery.
Two other individuals, 19-year-old Raekwon Segers and 23-year-old Tevin Dwight McKeaver, were also arrested in connection to the home invasion. Segers was charged with felony conspiracy to possess a felony amount of marijuana and felony conspiracy to possess with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver marijuana. McKeaver faced multiple charges, including common law obstruction of justice, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony conspiracy to possess a felony amount of marijuana.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office continue to work together on the investigation, and more charges may be possible as they gather additional information.
