Jared Musgrove, a 27-year-old man from Hubert, North Carolina, was fatally shot on July 5, 2022. The incident occurred at the Patriot Place Mobile Home Park in Hubert, where emergency responders found Musgrove suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Musgrove, who also lived in Virginia, was the father of a 2-year-old son.
His mother mentioned that Musgrove knew the man who shot him was headed to North Carolina to confront him.
The suspect in the case is James McAlee, a 46-year-old man from Alexandria, Virginia. McAlee drove over 300 miles to confront Musgrove about an alleged relationship with McAlee's adult daughter. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, and after the men were separated, McAlee retrieved a gun from his truck and shot Musgrove. Authorities received a 911 call about the shooting at around 3:20 a.m. on July 5.
Following the incident, McAlee was initially released due to a lack of evidence. However, the U.S. Marshals Service and a sheriff’s office detective later found and arrested McAlee. He was charged with murder and initially held without bond. On July 30, 2022, a District Court judge set McAlee's bond at $500,000. Court records do not list an attorney for McAlee, and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
