On October 5, 2014, 77-year-old Peggy Lou Regel was found dead on her rear deck at her home in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Police responded to the scene at 6:35 p.m. and discovered Regel suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators and crime scene personnel were called to the scene, and an investigation was launched to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
