Dwight 'DJ' Dewayne Grayer, a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically shot on January 4, 2015, while sitting in his burgundy Chevrolet Impala at a stoplight at the intersection of North Duke Street and Horton Road in Durham, North Carolina. A gray vehicle, believed to be a Hyundai Elantra, pulled up next to his car, and a passenger inside began firing shots into Grayer's vehicle. Grayer was shot in the head and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Despite the severity of his injuries, Grayer survived the initial shooting and underwent multiple surgeries and rehabilitation. However, during the last of many surgeries on September 14, 2015, he suffered a catastrophic stroke and was taken off life support two days later.

The Durham Police Department has been actively investigating the case, but as of now, no arrests have been made. The suspects in the gray vehicle remain unidentified, and the police have only a vague description of the individuals involved. The vehicle was seen sitting in the parking lot of the Joy Mart at the same intersection before pulling out and stopping next to Grayer's car. After the shooting, the suspects turned left and fled northbound on Duke Street.

In an effort to gather more information and bring the perpetrators to justice, Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $2,000 for any information leading to an arrest in connection with Grayer's murder. The Grayer family has been deeply affected by the loss of their son and continues to seek answers and justice for his untimely death. They have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the Durham Police Department in solving the case.

The case remains unsolved, and the Durham Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Dwight 'DJ' Dewayne Grayer's death. The community and law enforcement are hopeful that new leads will emerge, and those responsible for this tragic incident will be brought to justice.
