She was born on January 26, 1982, in Cumberland County and was employed by Wendy’s in Hope Mills. On the night of her death, Tanishia was attending a birthday party at a home on Gumberry Road. The celebration turned deadly when gunfire erupted shortly before 2 a.m., resulting in the deaths of Tanishia and 21-year-old Izaak Bridges.

Despite the presence of a sign at the party venue that read "No weapons!!," one or more individuals brought firearms, leading to the fatal incident. In addition to the two fatalities, five other individuals were injured in the shooting.
