Jessi Marie Lindsley, a 38-year-old woman from Hope Mills, North Carolina, was reported missing by her family in early November 2021. Her body was discovered on December 17, 2021, in a creek on Butler Nursery Road near Blossom Road in Cumberland County. The area where her body was found is heavily wooded and sparsely populated. The autopsy revealed that Jessi Marie Lindsley had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, torso, and hand.

Authorities arrested Javeeno Jeno Antonio Resimo, an 18-year-old male from Hope Mills, in connection with Jessi Marie Lindsley's death. Resimo was initially charged with accessory after the fact to murder but later faced upgraded charges of first-degree murder. During the investigation, it was revealed that Jessi Marie Lindsley had been killed at Resimo's home on Jacamp Drive, where she also lived. Resimo reportedly showed a cellphone picture of Lindsley's body to a woman after the killing. Resimo was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In addition to Resimo, another individual, Michael Lee Witt, a 30-year-old male from Fayetteville, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact of first-degree murder. Witt was accused of helping Resimo conceal Jessi Marie Lindsley's death. Witt later pleaded guilty to concealment of death after the fact, and in exchange for his plea, the charge of accessory was dismissed. Witt was required to testify against Resimo at trial.
