Samuel Trey Fedrick III, a 28-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on February 19, 2015, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred during a drug buy that escalated into a robbery at the home of John Jacob Sierra, a 38-year-old military veteran and father of four. Evidence presented in court revealed that Fedrick was shot during the altercation, and his body was subsequently found three days later in the trunk of his car, which was parked on North Platte Road.
John Jacob Sierra was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Samuel Trey Fedrick III. Sierra pleaded guilty to the charge, as well as to possession of a firearm by a felon, maintaining a drug house, and possessing marijuana. During an emotional hearing at the Cumberland County Courthouse, Sierra expressed remorse for his actions and apologized to Fedrick's family. Despite his apology, Fedrick's family, including his mother Priscilla and his fiancée Alicia Scott, were deeply affected by the loss and expressed their grief in court.
Three co-defendants, Heather Elizabeth Peck, Joshua Manuel Rivera, and Raymon Jay Robinson III, were also implicated in the case. They pleaded guilty to being accessories after the fact to a felon in possession of a firearm. The co-defendants were accused of helping to dispose of Fedrick's body, the gun used by Sierra, and marijuana found in the house. Each of them received a suspended prison sentence of six to 17 months.
