Kouren-Rodney Bernard Thomas, a 20-year-old Black man, was tragically shot and killed on August 7, 2016, in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the Neuse Crossings neighborhood, where Thomas was attending a party. Chad Cameron Copley, a 39-year-old White man, fired a shot from inside his garage, hitting Thomas who was standing in the street.
