Nakoma Deshane Jacobs, a 26-year-old male from Red Springs, NC, was tragically shot and killed on August 28, 2016. The incident occurred early in the morning at a residence on Bryant Road. Deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at approximately 5:20 a.m. and found Jacobs lying on the ground near the back door of the home with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Despite being transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Jacobs succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that the motive for the shooting was robbery. Jacobs had been robbed of personal items, including jewelry and a firearm. The primary suspect identified in the case was Daniel Richard Cummings, a 30-year-old male from Old Lowery Road. Cummings was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Cummings had a criminal history, including convictions for felony possession of stolen goods, animal cruelty, breaking and entering, assault with a deadly weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, and injury to real property. He had been released from Lumberton Correctional Institution in March 2014.
Authorities were also attempting to identify another person of interest in connection with the crime. The investigation into Jacobs' death was ongoing, and the Robeson County Sheriff's Office urged anyone with information about the case or Cummings' whereabouts to come forward.
