Travis Malloy, a 23-year-old African American male, was tragically shot in the head while sitting in a minivan at the Walnut Woods Apartments in Raleigh, North Carolina, on the morning of September 23, 2016. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex located on Middle Branch Road. Malloy was immediately transported to WakeMed, where he was treated for his injuries over the weekend. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on September 26, 2016.

Following the shooting, Raleigh police quickly apprehended 25-year-old Anthony Darius Neal, who was initially charged with several offenses, including discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Upon Malloy's death, Neal's charges were upgraded to murder. Neal was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, relating to a second individual in the minivan, 24-year-old Kedrick Daquane Thomas, who was not injured in the shooting.

In addition to Neal, a second suspect, 26-year-old Daquan Timothy White, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Malloy's death. White was taken into custody and transported to the Wake County Detention Center. The investigation revealed that multiple gunshots were fired during the incident, with witnesses reporting hearing as many as nine shots. A 911 call from a witness described the chaotic scene, with the caller frantically reporting that Malloy had been shot in the head and was bleeding profusely.

The case garnered significant attention, with the Raleigh police working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. The arrests of Neal and White marked a significant development in the investigation, as authorities sought to bring justice for Malloy and his family. The charges against both suspects highlighted the severity of the crime and the determination of law enforcement to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
