Jahee Tycari Hoke, a 17-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 20, 2016, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jahee was a new student at Olympic High School in Charlotte, where he was known for his passion for sports and his outgoing, respectful nature. He had recently moved to Charlotte from Newport News, Virginia, and had quickly made a positive impact on those around him.
Jahee was deeply loved by his family, including his mother, brother, grandmother, and great uncle.
On the evening of October 20, 2016, Jahee was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 13500 block of Armour Ridge Drive in southwest Charlotte. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred just one day before Jahee's 18th birthday.
The investigation into Jahee's death led to the arrest of 28-year-old Terrance Darryl Gilbert. Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department gathered evidence that identified Gilbert as the suspect in the case. Gilbert was apprehended by CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and charged with Jahee's murder. He is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
