Apaulenal Eric Areyano, a 26-year-old man, was tragically shot and killed on May 30, 2017, at the Sleep Inn Hotel in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Police responded to a reported shooting at the hotel around 8 p.m. and found Areyano lying on the floor inside a room with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that Areyano had planned to sell cocaine to Javarius Ford, who had rented the motel room in exchange for deposit money.
Surveillance video showed Ford entering the room with a backpack and Areyano entering 20 minutes later with a blue bag. After spending around 15 minutes together, three gunshots were heard, and Ford left the room without seeking help for Areyano. Ford later turned himself in to the police and pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was sentenced to 10-13 years in prison.
