Wallace Levon "Pokey" Sturdivant, a 60-year-old African-American male, was tragically shot and killed on June 6, 2017, in Wadesboro, NC. The incident occurred on Salisbury Street, a stretch of U.S. Highway 74, in front of Wadesboro Discount Grocery. Sturdivant was found lying in a vacant lot across the street from the grocery store, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Charles Edward Rivers, a 52-year-old African-American male, was also shot during the incident and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main Hospital in Charlotte for surgery. He survived his injuries. The Wadesboro Police Department, along with the Anson County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, launched an investigation into the shooting.
Governor Roy Cooper announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Sturdivant's murder. Despite extensive efforts, no suspects have been identified, and the case remains unsolved. The community and law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice for Sturdivant.
The investigation continues, with law enforcement working tirelessly to gather information and solve the case. The community has also shown support for Sturdivant's family and called for an end to violence in the area.
