Jonathan David Goodman, a 32-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 5, 2017, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Goodman, known by his nickname "Wish," was a passionate musician who performed along the East Coast. He was also a devoted father, with seven children and an eighth on the way. On the night of September 5, Goodman and 18-year-old Dareon Cook were found shot in a car parked at the Smokey Bones restaurant on Skibo Road.
Cook was pronounced dead at the scene, while Goodman was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The motive behind the shooting was determined to be robbery. Fayetteville police arrested three suspects in connection with the double murder: Ferris Brown, 20, Javier Rashad Johnson, 19, and Daivon Tahjai Chambers, 19. Both Brown and Johnson were active duty soldiers at Fort Bragg. The suspects were charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery. They were held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.
The suspects' arrest brought some relief to the grieving families, but the pain of losing their loved ones remained. Goodman's father, David Goodman, expressed his sorrow over the senselessness of the crime, emphasizing that his son was a caring individual who valued people. The suspects appeared in court, where a judge denied them bond and highlighted the severity of their charges, which could potentially result in the death penalty. The Goodman family, however, believed that life in prison would be justice enough for the loss of their beloved son. The case continued to unfold as the families of the victims sought answers and closure.
