Larry Doral Watson Jr., a 29-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on October 8, 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred early in the morning around 6:43 a.m. on Trinity Road. Watson was pronounced dead at the scene due to a gunshot wound. This marked the 71st homicide in Charlotte for the year 2017.
Following the incident, an investigation was launched by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

However, in 2017, Grady Hills, a 46-year-old male, was arrested in connection with the murder of Larry Doral Watson Jr. Hills faced charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The trial for Grady Hills began in July 2022. Despite the efforts of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Team, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict after a two-week trial. As a result, a mistrial was declared by Superior Court Judge Lisa Bell on July 25, 2022. The District Attorney's Office has not yet determined if the case will be retried.
