Brandon Morris, a 19-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on October 28, 2017, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The incident occurred at a party on Salem Street, where Morris was found unresponsive and gasping for air at the end of a driveway. He was transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported that there was no argument or altercation prior to the shooting, and bullets also struck a nearby vehicle, causing damage but no additional injuries.
The investigation into Brandon Morris's death led to the arrest of Aaron T. Saddler, a 45-year-old male, who was charged with murder. Saddler has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1988, including charges for larceny, possession with intent to sell and deliver drugs, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault with a deadly weapon. Saddler was being held in the Scotland County Detention Center without bond. Additionally, Lamont Worth, a 21-year-old male, was arrested and charged with obstruction of the investigation.
The Laurinburg Police Department, led by Police Chief Darwin Williams, has been actively investigating the case. Chief Williams mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be forthcoming. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. Brandon Morris's death is particularly tragic as his brother, Latrell Allen, was also a victim of gun violence earlier in the year. Allen was shot and killed in May at an apartment complex on Charlotte Street. The police have stated that the two cases do not appear to be connected, but the investigations are still ongoing.
