Miller was eventually apprehended after a standoff with officers in Gastonia, North Carolina, on June 29, 2018. He was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The trial began on November 1, 2021, and concluded on November 9, 2021, with the jury finding Miller guilty as charged. A superior court judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole, along with an additional 17-30 months in prison.
