In what began as a welfare check, the tragic death of Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado, a 26-year-old Latina woman, unfolded in an east Charlotte, North Carolina, apartment on March 10, 2026. Concerns were raised when a DoorDash driver at the apartment complex was informed that someone inside may be deceased, leading to a call to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Upon their arrival at the Central Avenue apartment, officers made a grim discovery.

Inside the apartment, authorities found Enamorado-Cisnado's body hidden inside a closet, concealed behind a door and covered with several towels and blankets. Investigators noted that her body had already begun to decompose, suggesting she had been deceased for some time before being found. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound.

The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 23-year-old Lhis Brito-Costa, who was arrested the following day, on March 11, 2026, and charged with first-degree murder. Court records revealed a tumultuous relationship between the two women. Brito-Costa allegedly confessed to investigators that she had been in a relationship with Enamorado-Cisnado and shot her after learning she was involved with someone else.

During her first court appearance, a judge ordered Brito-Costa to be held in custody without bond. It was also confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on Brito-Costa, indicating she is not in the United States legally.
