Shalecia Shavea Williams, a 21-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on April 28, 2019, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Shalecia was a resident of Charlotte and a 2017 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School. She was employed with First Light Home Care at the time of her passing. Shalecia was a mother to a one-year-old boy, and her untimely death has left a significant impact on her family and friends.
On the afternoon of April 28, 2019, Shalecia and a 29-year-old man were shot at the Heritage Park Apartments off Snow Lane in East Charlotte. The man, whose name has not been released, survived the shooting and was treated at a local hospital. Shalecia, however, succumbed to her injuries. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the shooting.
The investigation led to the arrest of Reco Perry Jr., a 23-year-old African American man, who was charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Perry was taken into custody with the assistance of the Gastonia Police Department. Additionally, Beyonce Rorie, an 18-year-old African American woman, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. The case remains under investigation, and more information is expected to be released as it develops.
Shalecia's death is one of many tragic incidents of gun violence in Charlotte, highlighting the need for community intervention and efforts to address the root causes of such violence.
