Nesha Nechelle Hart Pitt, a 33-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on September 21, 2018, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Nesha was born on August 20, 1985, in Arlington, Virginia, to John Hart and Gloria Evans Strickland. She was married to Brandy Pitt and was a loving mother to her children and stepchildren. Nesha's untimely death occurred during an armed robbery at Tarrytown Beach Bingo on S. Wesleyan Blvd. in Rocky Mount.
The incident also left two men, Thomas Thomas and Darryl Winfield, both 28, with serious injuries. Despite emergency crews' efforts, Nesha was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Rocky Mount Police Department swiftly acted on the case, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Torrin Lamont Thomas, 23, and Armun Dozier, 19. Torrin Thomas faced charges of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Armun Dozier was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Both suspects were held in the Nash County Detention Center without bond.

Funeral services were held on September 30, 2018, at Hemby-Willoughby Mortuary Chapel, with burial following at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Tarboro, North Carolina. The investigation into the armed robbery and shooting continued, with authorities seeking justice for Nesha and the other victims involved in the tragic event.
