Deante Antoine Jefferies, a 29-year-old African American man, was tragically shot and killed on October 14, 2018, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The incident occurred at a home on Leggett Road, where Jefferies was attempting to protect his cousin's friend, Shenika Shaw, from an estranged boyfriend who had shown up unannounced and combative. Jefferies was shot three times while trying to intervene, and he died at the scene in the arms of his cousin, Tiera Dancy.
