On June 26, 2024, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 1100 block of Cypress Street in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered 35-year-old Jeffrey Jerome Fenner Jr. suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services from Edgecombe County pronounced him dead at the scene.
Later that day, police arrested 29-year-old Rocky Mount resident Adrian Hagans, charging him with first-degree murder in connection with Fenner's death. Hagans was taken into custody and held without bond at the Edgecombe County Detention Facility.
The Rocky Mount Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They have urged anyone with information to contact them at 252-972-1411.
Jeffrey Fenner Jr., born on September 16, 1988, in Pitt County, was the son of Jeffery J. Fenner Sr. and Tereasa Mitchell. He is survived by his parents; a son, Jeffery Fenner III; three daughters, Angel, London, and Diamond Fenner; a sister, Jessica L. Fenner; and his maternal grandmother, Amanda Smith. A funeral service was held on July 13, 2024, at Hemby-Willoughby Chapel, followed by burial at Buddy Hemby Memorial Cemetery.
