He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star , Meritorious Service Medal , Commendation Medal with Valor, Combat Action Medal, and the Armor Draper Leadership Award.
Jacops was born on January 11, 1978, in Amarillo, Texas, and enlisted in the United States Army after graduating from Palo Duro High School in 1996. At the time of his death, he was assigned to the Security Force Assistance Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Jacops was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on November 3, 2018. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office identified him as the suspect in the sexual assault of two women. An investigation revealed that Jacops owned a Harley Davidson motorcycle matching the description provided by the victims. The assaults occurred on the North Carolina Highway 301 Corridor, where Jacops allegedly offered women rides on his motorcycle, took them to secluded areas, and sexually assaulted them. A photographic lineup confirmed that Jacops was the assailant.
