Kitric Shavoy Reeves Jr., a 28-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on June 23, 2019, in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The incident occurred outside a nightclub on North Main Street around 2 a.m. Reeves was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Reeves was not a rapper himself but was deeply involved in the music scene as the backbone of the rap group Deadplay Entertainment , which
performed along the East Coast. The shooting was reportedly a result of an earlier altercation involving a member of the rap group. According to his mother, Teresa Leslie, the suspect in the shooting was the same individual Reeves had an altercation with at another club a week prior.
The investigation into Reeves' death revealed that several vehicles in the area had their windows shot out during the incident. Cumberland County Sheriff's Office investigators were on the scene gathering evidence and reviewing security footage from nearby businesses.
A significant development in the case occurred when Sgt. William Donelle Dillard, a 26-year-old soldier from Fort Bragg, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Dillard, who was assigned to the 407th Brigade Support Battalion at Fort Bragg, was taken into custody and held in the Cumberland County jail. The arrest was based on the altercation between Dillard and Reeves that took place a week before the shooting.
Reeves' family, who had already endured the loss of another family member to gun violence, expressed their desire for justice. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities seeking additional information from witnesses who were present at the scene.
