Tyron Jodie Ervin, a 22-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on December 17, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred at The Retreat at McAlpine Creek Apartments in south Charlotte. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. and found Ervin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The investigation into Ervin's death was extensive and spanned several years. On August 16, 2021, CMPD announced that two suspects had been charged in connection with Ervin's murder. Juan Deras Escalante, a 21-year-old male, and Mario Jose Ramirez-Duarte, a 20-year-old male, were identified as the suspects. Escalante was already in custody for an unrelated murder case, while Ramirez-Duarte was arrested without incident on August 15, 2021. Both suspects were charged with murder and other related offenses.
