Ramon Clark, a 26-year-old African American male, was tragically shot to death in the early hours of January 11, 2019, in Asheville, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Rainbow Community School on Haywood Road. According to police reports, Clark was found in a dark-colored car that had sustained multiple gunshots to the exterior. He had been fatally shot at least once in the head.
The shooting happened shortly after 2 a.m., and the school ran on a two-hour delay on January 11 to allow workers to clean the crime scene.
The investigation into Clark's death revealed that several bullet fragments were lodged in the passenger side of the car. Police also found four cell phones, several hundred dollars, and a pistol in the vehicle. One of the people who reported the killing indicated that Clark was outside of the car at the time of the shooting. The red fence located at the back of the shallow parking lot had about ten bullet holes in it. Clark's death certificate indicated that he worked as an electrical assembly worker at the time of his death.
Despite the efforts of the Asheville Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with Clark's murder. The case remains under investigation, and police have executed search warrants on the car and other items found at the scene. The homicide was the first of 2019 in Asheville, following a record year for homicides in the city in 2018, during which 13 people died as a result of homicide.
